Data Protection Statement
Users of the TurnitinUK plagiarism detection software must consider the requirements of Data Protection legislation when registering for the service. The documentation provided by the Plagiarism Advisory Service for using the software incorporates specific procedures for the management of personal data within the system. Although based in the US, iParadigms, the software providers are contractually bound to comply with EU Data Protection legislation. An open letter confirming their position is available below for users' inspection below:
"iParadigms, LLC, providers of the JISC Plagiarism Detection Service, wish to assure the JISC Higher Education and Further Education communities of our adherence to safeguarding the PDS users' personal and sensitive data. All required measures have been taken to ensure that our service is in compliance with EU Data Protection Legislation, specifically the UK Data Protection Act 1998."
